Message From The Chair
Dear Republican delegates, volunteers, and voters,
As Party Chair I am often asked, “Where is the Utah County Republican Party (UCRP) going?” This is a fair question as we face a staggering national debt and a growth to the power and scope of government that has never been seen before. Some even ask, “Is there really a difference between the parties?”
Make no mistake about it, our liberties are under attack and the difference between the major parties has never been clearer. We will prevail as we continue to challenge the status quo, seek transparency, and demand responsible and accountability in government at all levels. Vigilance is our duty, action is the call. We will show tomorrow’s leaders that the Republican Party is the party of the future as we stay committed to conservative principles, better utilize technology, and build a stronger grass-roots movement.
I have counseled with many citizens and leaders to establish a goal/theme for my term as Chair and have begun working to make sure we reach our goal.
VICTORY
My goal is to continue to energetically defend our principles and elect Republicans in 2010 and beyond. Victory is the goal but it is also the theme (Vision, Inclusion, Communication, Technology, Openness, Relationships, and Youth).
To achieve these goals we must:
Energetically articulate a conservative Vision.
Broaden support through Inclusion in events and activities that welcome all voters, including those from diverse religious, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Improve Communication with the party faithful and the public at large to recruit, train, and motivate others to be involved in the political process.
Use Technology to improve communication and outreach.
Conduct ourselves with Openness and transparency to increase fairness and unity.
Outreach to like-minded groups, individuals, and organizations to strengthen Relationships.
Expand our interaction with today’s Youth, since the rising generation will be tomorrow’s leaders.
VICTORY will only be possible when all members of the Republican family join together. We invite you to join with the UCRP as we put aside past differences and focus on that which will make us stronger.
A Time of Transition
The Utah County Republican Party is experiencing a time of transition: Our national party, with whom we share a common brand and general philosophy, is searching for footing and a leader; we face a public that clearly is demonstrating growing uncertainty and frustration with the federal government; and we elected new local leadership this year.
How will we respond? Will we show that we are the party of the future? Will we demonstrate that we have the ideas, the skills, the technology, and the resources to achieve our conservative agenda? Will we continue to fight to defend the constitution and protect the family?
Yes, but only if we don’t panic and continue to demonstrate we have the strategy, organization, and resources to set an aggressive agenda and then work hard to accomplish it. We have been and will continue to be in the business of recruiting, training, and motivating voters to get involved.
The foundation of strength we enjoy today will still work as we move forward.. Our foundation is strong because we are rooted on constitutional principles, party volunteers serve selflessly, we have adequate resources to identify support and get our message out, our elected officials represent our platform with conviction and integrity, and we have been united against our common foe of big government and liberal policies. We also stand on time-tested, proven strategies of grass-roots support for local effective elected officials.
The Utah County Republican Party has set a goal and established a theme that will help us build on our conservative principles to help defend the Constitution and protect the family. This goal and theme is called VICTORY (Vision, Inclusion, Communication, Technology, Openness, Relationships, and Youth). A spirit of unity is needed now more than ever. We can achieve VICTORY even now during a time of transition.
What is the Utah County Republican Party?
The UCRP is essentially a small business/special interest group. We are like-minded individuals that have joined together for a common purpose. We have policies and bylaws that dictate our structure, function, and direction.
Any group in order to be successful must have three elements: Organization, Strategy, and Resources.
Organization
The power of the UCRP flows from the bottom up. Our elected officials represent their districts with energy and integrity. They are accountable to us; we support them. It is a system that works.. This time-tested, proven organization is under attack from some who claim to be our friend but whose actions prove otherwise. As Chair, I am committed to preserving the organizational structure that has served us well in the past.
Strategy
Why do we exist and where are we headed are fair questions many have asked me. Our fundamental goal is to energetically declare our conservative principles and elected representatives that help us promote our agenda through legislation (defeat bad ones and pass good ones). VICTORY will help keep us strong and moving forward.
Resources
It takes funds for any entity to be successful; the UCRP is no different. And just like any entity we have to prioritize our limited resources and focus on objectives. It takes effort to raise funds; spending requires accountability and safeguards.
Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
We are the party of the future. Let’s come together to achieve VICTORY.
